Question 1 Trying to install AIX 4.3.3 ver 11 update and I need gzip. I download gzip-1.2.4.rs6000-ibm-aix3.2.tar.Z on Win XP (my only option for download) and burn it to CD. The CD shows the file name as gzip-1.2.4.rs6000-ibm-aix3.2.tar.Z However when I mount the cd it shows the file name as gzip_1_2.z I cp this to the /tmp/gnu then use uncompress on it and get gzip_1_2.z.Z A file or directory in the path name does not exist. Notice when AIX mounts gzip-1.2.4.rs6000-ibm-aix3.2.tar.Z as gzip_1_2.z it alters the capital Z to lower case z and I think this upsets the uncompress command. Notice how the file name in the uncompress error ends in .z.Z Used unpack on gzip_1_2.z but get an error This file is not in packed format. Tried to use rename but my version of AIX does not have the rename command. How can I get the file off the cd into the computer with its correct name ? Thanks RS/6000 Power Station 7011-250 256mb GT4e Video 6091-19i terminal AIX4.3.3.0 command line only. Answer 1 You have to install perl.rte first, then rpm.rte from Linux Affinity CD. After that gzip from ibm is installed. Question 2 gheist. Many thanks for your reply. Spent a lot of time Googling but cannot find a download of the Linux Affinity CD compatible with AIX 4.3. All links I found pointed back to IBM sites which all refer to AIX 5L. Do you know of a download site for the correct CD, so I can get the correct version of the files off it you mention. Thanks Answer 2 Fetch this ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/aix/freeSoftware/aixtoolbox/INSTALLP/ppc/rpm.rte Last time I checked it installed on 4.3.3-10 Be sure to install perl from AIX CD before. You know- CD is physical thingie, google will not help you to locate it in your drawer.... Question 3 gheist I said in my original post I only had AIX 4.3.3.0 Installed. What use is the link to me "Last time I checked it installed on 4.3.3-10" You also said "from Linux Affinity CD". If I had it in my "drawer" I would not be asking where to download the CD from. I find your remarks unhelpful and condecending. Do me a favour and do not answer any more of my posts. You know I am a newbie as admitted in other questions. Answer 3 farl, Since you admit you're a new member, we won't be a little more forceful in this comment. Instead, we'll just point you to the Help page -- http://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp -- with the suggestion that you pay particular attention to the following sections: http://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp#hi102 http://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp#hi73 Doing so will improve your chances of getting answers to your questions, because many of the Experts here are quite familiar with each other -- and news of someone who grades vindictively or shows unwarranted disrespect gets around pretty quickly. Vindictive grade changed. Once you get your hands on it, you will probably notice that some java fileset is rejected, even this is not critical for working of perl, gzip or rpm, so I'd suggest you one link with matching Java patches.
